For the past two years, mackerel have been moving into Icelandic fishing waters in response to Global Warming. Now several European countries, led by Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal, are claiming that Icelandic fishermen are not following EU quotas, designed to keep fish populations stable. Iceland has countered that their own regulations are actually more effective.

Virgin Seeks Renewable Energy Proposals; Hydropower Boosted by House of Representatives- Energy Min

Posted by admin on February 28, 2013 in Renewable Energy with No Comments

Virgin Limited Edition is seeking proposals for a Renewable Energy project on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. Virgin is aiming to reduce and/or eliminate the use of fossil fuels for electricity generation on the island, home to entrepreneur and Virgin founder Richard Branson, and to install renewable energy systems to help reduce costs. The RFPs are being handled by the Carbon War Room, Homer Energy, and Reznick Think Energy. Successful implementation will represent the centerpiece of the 10 Island Challenge program launched by Branson and the CWR at the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in June 2012. That program seeks to help 10 island nations around the world to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels by 2020.

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Hydropower Regulatory Efficiency Act of 2013 by a unanimous 422 to 0 vote. The legislation is designed to promote the growth of mini hydro and in-conduit projects by streamlining the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission permitting process for low-impact proposals. According to the National Hydropower Association, hydroelectric sources currently provide about two-thirds of the nation’s renewable electricity with 100,000 megawatts of power. Studies show that an additional 60,000 megawatts of hydroelectric capacity and 1.4 jobs could be created with the right policies in place.

Environmental protection means the sanitation of the environment, that is, keeping our living conditions healthy, clean, and hygienic, and protecting nature from being destroyed. The Protection of the Spiritual Environment movement promoted by Dharma Drum Mountain is closely related to the protection of our living and natural environments; its essence lies in being aware of our mind, knowing if our mind is pure or contaminated, knowing if there are afflicted, impure thoughts in our mind.

Renewable Energy With Windmills

Posted by admin on February 27, 2013 in Renewable Energy with 5 Comments

We are living a very difficult period for our wallets. Everything is costing more, and in this situation, one of the best way to earn more money is to save as much money as you can by spending less.

You can choose to eat more often at home with your family instead or going to the restaurant or other fast foods. You can choose to turn to wind electricity to power cars. You can choose to spend vacations in your parents’ house instead of your usual trip to the Caribbean sea.

Today, I’m going to show you how to save money with wind generated electricity for homes.

What is wind generated electricity for homes?

Simple, you are going to create free electricity. In fact, you are creating your own power, and after some time, you will be able to live completely off grid. The wind is not the only way to create your own power. You can also save money with the sun or hydro power if you want. But let’s see one thing at a time.

First, when you start building windmills, you do not want to start with a big project because it will cost you more and you will also need more time. You will start with wind power electricity for less than five hundreds Watts for a total cost of less than $300.

You will be able to find the motor in old appliances. As for the other parts, a trip to your local junk yard and you will find all you need to start. You’ll find the batteries, the tower and the base. If you do not have enough time to make your own research, don’t worry. You will exchange time by money. What I mean is that you have the option to buy a starter kit with everything your need to start with your wind generated electricity for homes.

The only drawback to this is that it will cost you a little more. But it is still worth it in the long term.

Science, Healthy Lifestyles, Global Warming – Mandarins in Manhattan

Posted by admin on February 27, 2013 in Global Warming with No Comments

Throughout the expansion of people around the earth the movements have generally spread east and west out of Africa, and most have stayed in the wide central middle climate zones between both poles where the science shows that healthy lifestyles are easier if you can grow crops all year. Thus in the west it was that as people migrated to the north from Egypt they found winter storms could happen in Athens or Rome. And thus developed the need for storage for the times when science says if the average temperature falls below 40 F crops will not grow.

And after the times of Alexander the Great, the creation of his majestic port at the mouth of the life giving Nile made possible increasing crops in ever fertile Egypt to soon become the bread basket for Athens and then Rome. And even before Athens back into the far reaches of time, people had been forced southward in Europe and all northern regions of earth, at both poles really. The cave drawings in southern France also show reindeer bones at layers when England was covered in ice.

We have moved north and south several times. And with our human help, it is rather speeding up this time, as the flowing water out of expanding holes in glaciers shows from Greenland and Canada to the Antarctic. Soon the always frozen seas of northern Canada will be open to traffic, the long sought northwest passage which actually is a huge short cut for trade between Europe and Asia. All win with lower costs and quickly delivery in this case. There is that issue about the sea rising, which may create Dutch type cities and the need to adapt to what ever is coming at us.

If New Orleans needs 10 feet high dikes, let us build them. In some areas less precious or historic, maybe we need to move to high ground also. But what is coming is the northward ability of crops, from Changsha Mandarin Oranges and hardy banana trees up in west coast Canada, to grizzly bears mating with polar bears as they reach the Arctic Ocean, where small trees are starting to poke up from the permafrost. And we now have other burning bushes to put out while California crops and vineyard dry out as we find the Sonoran desert moving northward, burning bushes by bush.

Meanwhile Manhattan will sonn grow Mandarin oranges as now in the frost zones of Manchuria. And as grizzly bears have now reached the Arctic Ocean, we in Canada now have a new worry: what do you call a baby bear, still white but with a black mouth, who had a Grizzly for a daddy, and a Polar kind of mom? Change would be good.

Energy lights our world, heats our food and keeps us connected. Demand for energy is dramatically increasing as the human population grows exponentially. Experts are clear that urgent solutions need to be found, but what are the best solutions? Is Renewable Energy like solar and wind power the right answer? Redi Tlhabi speaks to Professor Mosad Elmissiry, the head of the Energy Programme at the New Africa Partnership (NEPAD).
