Rio+20 Corporate Commitments; HP & NASCAR Team Up; Smokey Robinson Cause Alarm – CSR Minute 6/26/12

At Rio+20, the UN received 692 individual commitments from governments and companies totaling $513 billion dollars in pledges for sustainability projects. Microsoft, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Bank of America were among those making significant commitments. The pledges also included Clean Energy strategies from more than 50 governments and $50 billion dollars from private investors as part of the UN’s Sustainable Energy for All program.

HP Enterprise Services and NASCAR have announced the NASCAR Fan and Media Engagement Center, a resource that will facilitate immediate response to traditional, digital, and social media. The Center will leverage HP’s information management and analytics, and social media business offerings to enable NASCAR to engage leading media channels in real time.

Motown legend Smokey Robinson has launched Smoke Alarm, which he describes as “a social media-based emergency broadcast system for causes.” Partnering with ad agency Crispin Porter & Bogusky and David Clark, the idea is to create a “cause swarm” as people contribute to specific causes activated by hitting “send” on a “Smoke Alarm” from Robinson’s Twitter account.
