UGE & GE Skypump: The world’s first wind-powered EV Charging Station

Posted by admin on August 14, 2012 in Renewable Energy with 1 Comment

Introducing the Skypump, UGE’s revolutionary wind-powered EV charging station developed in collaboration with GE Energy.

Working together with GE Energy, a leader in renewable energy and the world’s premier supplier of charging stations, UGE offers consumers the ground-breaking Sanya Skypump. Installed by UGE Iberia, the Spanish branch of New York-based Urban Green Energy, the Skypump is located at Cespa’s global headquarters near Barcelona.

Equipped with an LED light, GE WattStation/DuraStation (depending on location) technology, and capturing up to 4 kW of wind energy, the Sanya Skypump ensures that EVs are powered by the cleanest energy possible – directly from the wind! Homeowners may also couple the same UGE-4K turbine with GE’s wall-mounted WattStationTM to have renewable EV charging capabilities at home. The Sanya Skypump makes EV charging as simple as possible with target locations in parking lots, highway rest areas, or any convenient roadside.

When the charging station is not in use, the UGE-4K turbine will continue to operate and feed energy back into the grid, providing the local electric grid with additional Renewable Energy.

Renewable Energy in Germany 2012

Posted by admin on July 22, 2012 in Renewable Energy with No Comments

Since the year 2000 Germany has developed from a pro-renewable energy country into a Renewable Energy powerhouse aiming for a complete transformation of its energy system.

In Germany most of the renewable energy capacity is owned by individuals or community power projects. In this grassroots energy revolution millions of households, villages and even entire regions have already declared their partial or total energy independence by becoming independent power producers. This is driven by the concept of energy autonomy, of not being dependent on multinational corporations or energy sources that destroy the world future generations have to life in. It was made possible by policy frameworks that enabled & encouraged people to invest in renewable energy sources and enforced market access by removing obstacles that prevent renewable energy projects around the world to this very day.

During the first half of the year solar power alone has produced more than 4% of the total power demand in Germany. While the share was rather small with about 1% in January it grew to more than 10% in May as the days got longer and warmer. Each kWh from solar power has been produced during peak-load hours, replacing coal, gas or oil-fired power stations.

Between January and June the combined power production of wind & solar energy was 5.5-7.5 TWh which represents 16-19% of the total power production every month. While wind power was the dominant source of variable renewable energy sources during the winter months, solar power took the lead in May & June 2012. Additionally biomass produced approximately 2.8 TWh and hydro power produced approximately 1.7 TWhs every month.

This video tries to show how this bottom up push toward a 100% renewable energy system looks like. Enjoy the video!

The Truth About Global Warming – Science & Distortion – Stephen Schneider

Posted by admin on May 26, 2012 in Global Warming with 1 Comment

Stephen Henry Schneider (February 11, 1945 — July 19, 2010) was Professor of Environmental Biology and Global Change at Stanford University, a Co-Director at the Center for Environment Science and Policy of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and a Senior Fellow in the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment. Schneider served as a consultant to federal agencies and White House staff in the Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations.

His research included modeling of the atmosphere, climate change, and “the relationship of biological systems to global climate change.” Schneider was the founder and editor of the journal Climatic Change and authored or co-authored over 450 scientific papers and other publications. He was a Coordinating Lead Author in Working Group II IPCC TAR and was engaged as a co-anchor of the Key Vulnerabilities Cross-Cutting Theme for the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) at the time of his death. During the 1980s, Schneider emerged as a leading public advocate of sharp reductions of greenhouse gas emissions to combat Global Warming.
